Modern Day Inventors

Modern-day inventors wouldn’t be inventors if they didn’t have the necessary help and funding to get their products off the ground. If these inventors weren’t able to get their products produced and out to the masses, our lives just wouldn’t be the same. Below are a few inventors who came up with ideas that have changed our lives.

Mary Phelps Jacob

Mary Phelps Jacobs was a young socialite in New York. She hated the corsets that women wore at the time. She found it impossible to keep the rods from poking out from underneath her evening gowns. To find a better solution, she used two silk handkerchiefs. She asked her maid to help her sew them together using a bit of pink ribbon and cord. The result was more comfortable and form-fitting. It wasn’t long before her friends, and family members asked her to make one for them as well. Soon, she patented her product and called it the Backless Brassiere. When metal needed to be conserved during World War I, the government asked that women stop purchasing corsets. This is where her product really took off. The next time you put on a bra rather than an uncomfortable corset, you can thank Mary.

Jimmy Wales

Years ago, if you needed information on something, you had to look to an encyclopedia. Thanks to Jimmy Wales, you no longer need to go to a book for information. He is an internet entrepreneur and also the co-founder of Wikipedia. He launched the website on January 15, 2001. His idea and the fact that he made it a reality is why Time Magazine named him one of “The 100 Most Influential People” in 2006.

George Albert Lyon

Automobiles have changed a lot over the years. The next time you are in a fender bender and don’t do damage to the body of your car, you can thank George Albert Lyon. He was the man who invented the first automobile bumper. When the bumper became popular, he started the company called Lyon Inc. Soon after, his company created stainless steel wheel covers and metal tire covers for spare wheels.

Clarence Birdseye

If you recognize the name, Birdseye, it is likely because you have eaten his food. This is the man who is responsible for the creation of frozen food. In 1925, he created a double belt freezer. It was a frozen, stainless steel belt that carried packaged fish and freezing it quickly. His invention marked the beginning of the frozen food industry that is still incredibly popular today.

Each of these people created something that has changed the world in one way or another. If you have a clever idea and you want to make your mark and possibly change the world, the contact us at Ideazon to help you get your invention off the ground.
